If anything, I'm glad there is no button on the back pockets. Usually, they can be the proverbial pain in the a**. But I can understand the need for a button or a Velcro flap to provide extra security for a wallet. With shorts, it's better to have your wallet in the slash pocket or in one of the cargo pockets. The size of the tech pocket to carry a phone is ideal if you carry a smaller phone. If you carry a larger screen phone, it will stick out of the pocket.Most importantly, it is true to size in fit. I wear a 36-inch waist in my work jeans and dress pants (generally Dockers). I ordered a 36-inch waist in these shorts, and they were a perfect fit. Unlike some other relaxed fit or loose fit shorts, it's not like you are stepping into a pair of clown pants.You won't be disappointed with these shorts. I like the way they fit. The different sized pockets are great for smaller things like lighters or coins. Buying chinos/ chino shorts are a nightmare from the high street stores in the UK if you have an athletic build or hit the gym regularly due to the thigh to waist ratio.
